Tech for Civic Engagement

Here to Serve All Your Voter Engagement Needs

In 1999, Rock the Vote built the first-ever online voter registration tool to make it simpler for young people to vote. Ever since, our tech team has worked to develop cutting edge civic engagement tools. Rock the Vote’s fully customizable and rigorously tested technology helps to register, educate and mobilize voters.

Rock the Vote offers Online Voter Registration, Voter Registration Status Lookup, Absentee Ballot Request, and Pledge to Vote tools to partner organizations.

Online Voter Registration Platform

Rock the Vote’s Online Voter Registration platform makes voter registration easy for third-party organizations and has processed over 14 million voter registration applications to date.

Exclusively recommended by the 2014 Bipartisan Presidential Commission on Election Administration, Rock the Vote’s OVR Platform is rigorously and continuously tested, and the only nationwide platform with seamless integration in eligible states – significantly increasing success rates.

The platform is mobile-friendly, available in 13 languages, and streamlines pre-registration for 16 and 17-year-olds in available states. An API is also available for developers to build a custom interface.

Voter Registration Status Lookup

Rock the Vote gives voters from all states a one-stop location to check on their voter registration status. Voters enter their information and the tool checks against up-to-date third party information to see if the user is active on the voter rolls with their current address. If a likely match is found, the tool displays the record’s information for the user to review and confirm. If a voter record is not found, or if users need to update their address, users are directed to register to vote using Rock the Vote’s Online Voter Registration Platform.

Pledge to Vote

Rock the Vote’s Pledge to Vote tool enables users to pledge to vote, a proven tactic to increase the likelihood they will vote. Users enter their contact information and select whether or not they’d like to subscribe to SMS in addition to email.

Users are enrolled in Rock the Vote’s Election Reminders Program, which provides timely, localized election information via email, SMS, or both. These reminders include step-by-step guidance for all steps of the voting journey in clear, easy to understand language. The information is thoroughly fact-checked and comprehensive, covering relevant dates and deadlines for all federal and state elections as well as local elections in large cities.

Absentee Ballot Request Tool

The Absentee Ballot Request tool identifies the most streamlined way for each voter to request their absentee ballot and guides them through that process. If applicable, voters can select the election they’d like to request a ballot for and can repeat the process as many times as necessary to generate a request for each election. The interface is designed to prevent forms from being denied by election officials.

The interface functions the same way as the Online Voter Registration tool. Users begin by entering their name, email address, and zip code, just like when registering to vote. Depending on the zip code the user provides, they will go through the corresponding state flow to request an absentee ballot.

Featured Civic Technology Partners

We’re proud to power the civic technology and voter registration efforts of many organizations in the civic engagement space. We invest in our technology, ensure it’s the very best for our own programs, and make it available to partners who are also committed to registering and turning out new voters.
